Gerard Ellrott

Gerard Ellrott & his familyGerard Ellrott & his familyGerard Ellrott installed fencing and water points on his family property west of Rockhampton to help protect and restore areas of poor ground cover due to Sodic Sub Soil conditions. The new fences and watering points have allowed the Ellrott family to better manage their cattle access to areas with delicate soil, and allow for those areas to improve ground cover allowing for long term improvements in productivity and a reduction in sediment run off.

“We got this work done quicker with FRCC’s help and it was a great to have support and incentive for putting in long term infrastructure that will help our environment as well as our productivity.”

Richard and Victoria Moffat

Filling up a stock water tankRichard and Victoria Moffat installed Riparian and landtype fencing on their property west of Rockhampton, to help reduce the impact of cattle on the creek banks and to better manage grazing habits on sensitive land types. Richard and Victoria received incentive funding from FRCC for new fencing and water points to bring water off the river and distribute it on the property to even out the grazing pressure, this has allowed previously degrading areas to improve their ground cover.

“The funding from FRCC helped us fast track our work on the property and we have seen a positive change in the condition of the paddocks since we have been able to manage the cattle better. We found FRCC to be supportive in our plans for the property and very easy to work with.”

Robert and Ainsley McArthur

Group of Horses being riddenRiparian Fencing - funded by FRCCRobert and Ainsley McArthur received incentive funding from FRCC to install riparian fencing and off stream watering points on their family property at St Lawrence north of Rockhampton. The on ground works have allowed for multiple outcomes such as, improved biodiversity, riparian condition and productive capacity. The McArthur family have a large cattle enterprise and the funding project has allowed the younger members of the family to learn the benefits of well planned property infrastructure. The McArthur’s are now planning their next Project with FRCC.

“For our property its helping us fund things I was going to do anyway. It’s sped it up so we could achieve our long term sustainability goals sooner. I’d encourage all local producers to get on board and take advantage of it”

Ralph Bartlem and James Cullen.

Ralph and Jamie worked with FRCC to secure funding for their coastal property “Fernleigh” located on the Stanage Bay Peninsula 110Km north east of Rockhampton.

The on-ground works at Fernleigh will protect natural coastal wetland and Mangrove areas along the Herbert Creek inlet from the impacts of uncontrolled grazing. The fencing constructed during the project has allowed for better control of cattle movement through the riparian and coastal plains of the property.

“From the time we purchased the property we had spent a long time planning the best fencing and watering plan for the place, then when we finally decided on the best plan but couldn’t afford to do the work straight away, but with the help of FRCC we were able to blend the production and environmental outcomes into a great project that we are now proud of. It’s nice to be rewarded for good planning.” said Ralph.

Ralph and Jamie were winners of FRCC’s best Coastal Project for 2008-2009.

“At first we thought our plans might not have been eligible for funding and weren’t real sure if we would meet the criteria, but after speaking further with FRCC staff we were confident that our plans would be funded. We are really grateful for the funding, we would love to see more Graziers talking to groups like FRCC to see if their plans can also be funded” said Jamie.
